I believe the last boycott had somewhat of an impact, the one that said do not pump gas on Sunday, April 15th it might have been. I actually saw stations as ghost towns. I think if we could all get together to not get gas on one day of the week, why not Sunday, that it would make them take notice. It just has to have a dedication behind it. A real, serious dedication. Pinpoint maybe one Sunday a month, plan ahead of time, gradually try every Sunday in a month or any type of this formula.

1. Call off of work for a week - FIRED and POOR 2. Block traffic - ARRESTED, CHARGED, and CONVICTED - fines and jail time I can't afford. 3. We'll all have to DRIVE to wherever the "hands across America" location is in our state... thus defeating the point of not using gas...
What are you people thinking? Boycotts will NEVER work.
Use less. Use what you do get efficiently. Work towards alternative sources of energy.

I think in order for a boycott to work, then the idea of blocking highways has some merit.
When transportation companies arrange 'go-slows' on the motorways, and blockages of the refineries, the UK gov had to bring in legislation to get things moving again.
The 'go-slows' didn't block the motorways with stationery traffic, which is illegal, but a convoy going 30 mph was almost the same.

phrog said "You can never get everyone on the same page for a boycott. People don't listen and are too thick headed. Why do you think you see people at a station that costs 5 cents more than the station one block away, they don't pay attention. "
First, there are many reasons someone might be at a station that costs 5 cents more than the station a block away... 1- They have a branded card with discount that makes it cheaper than the other station. 2 -They are using a company account that requires them to use that branded station (maybe with contractual discount). 3- They look at total value of price, service, cleanliness, safety, convenience and for the amount of gas they are getting that station is the better value. 4 -They have a credit card and with cash back can do better than the "credit price" at the other station.
Just a few.
As for boycott? It will not work for gas. It has been explained why over and over on this board. It amazes me that there are so many that think one could work.

Phrog, ever consider some people pay the extra 60 cents on a fill up to save time, or because the coffee is better, or they have a gas card discount, etc.?

McCrate, how would any of this "send a message". Refiners look at sales in much longer frames than a day or two. The totals would be unchanged - nice message. BTW, refiners make about a dime a gallon, and stations much less. Do you think they should work for free and make nothing on their investments?

Uhhh. There is a problem with that. If we block trffic we could end up on the other end of the law. 80% of people need to work and live paycheck to paycheck so that is not helping them any. Bedsides if the whole world shut down, did you think about the economic catasrophy we would have. And the rich really don't care.

Chillyman3, I am not one for calling someone out, but, perhaps you should have stopped posting at post number 401!?
The vast majority of Americans cannot call of work for a week (whether it be that they own the business, can't do it financially, or would be replaced within the week), but no one stays home and could spend nothing for anything. Even at home you still have electricity, gas, and water, not to mention your mortgage (rent), and property taxes. The bills are still due.
What good would blocking traffic do? Waste more gas? Increase costs of deliveries as they'd have to travel farther to get around your mess? What the heck good would this do?
We did join hands across America (that's with a CAPITAL "A"!!!). A lot of good it did... that was the 80s, though. People would still have to drive to the place were the chain crossed through their area (we were stationed about 20 miles from our home when we did it in the 80s). How else would we get there? What purpose would this serve?
Nothing this "author" says in this post is meaningful, helpful, or shows that this person has at least two brain cells working in tandem.
What is this country coming to?

No, some people believe that boycotting a small businessman and buying the same commodity product from another business will somehow affect the world pricing of the commodity. Some people believe in the Tooth Fairy, too.

Zappaism: "Don't buy gas one day as in everybody. And if they don't hear us make it 2 days, See how fast you get their attention."
You really think that will do something significiant, not buying gas one day? I might be missing it, but what exactly should we expect will happen if we "Don't buy gas one day as in everybody." Or what will happen if we "make it 2 days"?

I think you would be in deep pooop if you blocked a federal interstate or expressway.
But I'll tell you, if you go and block an interstate for even a few hours and don't get arrested then I will give it a little thought the next time I take a dump.

You might get yourselves on the news, but even if everyone stayed home on the 15th the effect will be lost because on the 16th everyone will be back on the road and buying gas.

I have 3 ideas for boycotts....... 1. Call in to work for one week and stay home. NO shopping or spending money. PERIOD.... 2. EVERYONE should go to the nearest expressway and block any ALL traffic. 3. Since most of us are against high gas prices...ALL Americans should join hands across america. We all hold hands and link all states together( just like hands across america that was done in the 80's)This would involve everyone across all 50 states.

Things where boycotts can work: easily replaceable items (boycott florida oranges and replace with California) and easily replaceable destinations (vacation at the Delaware shore instead of the Maryland shore). Things where boycotts cannot work: non-replaceable commodities (gasoline).

10ILMAN its those people you mention they should stand up for the high gas prices. Most of them make less than minimum wage. Why should gas prices be more than half minimum wages? BTW Food stamps plastic card, unemployment check plastic card, free health care??? There is no such thing as free everybody pays for health care its called taxes..... I know my Ideas are silly and far fetched. However.....For all of you that say boycotts don't work. Have you ever tried to boycott?

Hey, at list the chill one has been posting gas prices. Thanks for that, chillyman. Now, you really should read up on some of the topics in this forum and see why none of what you suggested is 1) new 2) realistic or 3) capable of doing a thing.
