A lot of fuel injector cleaners contain alcohol, which can dry out seals over time. I would recommend adding Marvel Mystery Oil to your fuel tank occasionally, maybe once a month or every other fill up.
I used it in my 1986 truck, which had over 264,000 miles on it. Never needed to clean the fuel injectors. I also used it when changing the oil. My husband and I took the head off to tighten the valve springs and replace the head gasket at 198,000 miles. Aside from a little varnish it was perfectly clean.

I think Consumer Reports should test these oil additives.

From doing a lot research, there seems to be two types of "cleaners". One being a detergent base and other using a solvent base. Of all the reviews I have read: Techron, Seafoam, and Lucas seems to be the most liked additives.

Using Lucas seems to help a little. I'm not talking night and but you notice it when you use it.

yes, every 3 to 4 tanks of fuel, due to not being able to pay the premium prices for fuel. It will help clean the injecting system of the build ups of the cheap fuel, and if you get the right one, you can add a little boost to the car too.

Occasionally I will run a bottle through. Usually before I take my vehicle on a trip where I will be putting several hundred on it at one time.

Yes Lucas fuel treatment, I buy the gallon for $32 and it lasts a long time at 3 oz per 10 gallons every time I fill up (Roughly $1.50 per 20 gallon tank). It is not cost effective to purchase the small bottles for one time treatment @ $5 or more each.... Besides the fuel injector cleaner I am hoping to get longer engine life using this product due to its advertised upper cylinder lubricating properties.

nope, but I do use Stabil in small engine gas containers and the best thing I've found to clean gas lines, carbs, etc., is SeaFoam, it works wonders.

Hello wizzo. I have only used this type of product once when my 1994 Dodge B250 Ram Van began to idle poorly. I cannot remember the product's name, but it was called an engine treatment rather than a fuel injector cleaner. It was $16.00 a bottle and due to having a 36 gallon gas tank, I had to buy two. The total cost was $32.00. It actually worked and I never had another problem with the Dodge. I did not use this type of product in any vehicle since and have experience no problems.
Another question might be if anyone has gone to Jiffy Lube or elsewhere and had a fuel injector cleaner which bypasses the gasoline tank. It is attached to the fuel line AFTER the fuel pump in the gas tank. I've never heard if this procedure is useful in correcting problems or just plain expensive voodo.

I've been known to run a bottle of STP Fuel Injector cleaner through the system. Haven't noticed much of a difference, but, I haven't had to replace injectors either.
