The best way to stand up to ethanol interests is to have a flex fuel vehicle mandate (GEM - gasoline, ethanol and methanol). That way, demand from ethanol can be pulled naturally without all these subsidies. PLUS, we get the added advantage of CHOOSING what fuel we put in our cars.
Moreover, flex fuel vehicles need to be METHANOL compatible too. That's something the ethanol interests aren't helping.
I'm a big fan of ethanol fuels, but I won't ignore the way ethanol interests are gaming the system to their advantage. If I have to choose between Uncle Saud and American ethanol interests, I'll chose our ethanol interests. That doesn't mean they are angels in their own right.

GManCo,
Most people don't care about why E10 sells for less then regular gas all they know its cost less, that and they have been told for 25 years that E10 will give them the same or better mpg then regular gas so they use it with out fail. In some states people don't even know they are using E-10 gas as some states don't require the fact that Ethanol is mixed in there gas be posted on the gas pump. Also few people will take the time to find out what gas gives them the best mpg and cost less to use E10 or Regular gas.

Why do people not look beneath the surface where they can see that the costs of Ethanol, without subsidies, would sink the producer. If it can't stand on it's own, (Post Office, Gov. run health care, etc) and needs subsidies to survive, it is not a business: It is welfare.

This is not new news if you have done any research on ethanol. Ethanol would cost way more than just plain gas if the government did not cover the cost of it.

if your business plan requires - not benefits from; requires - an annual bailout from the federal government in order to function, then by definition you have a bad business plan. Mostly because you are not actually in business; you are a parasite pretending to be a business.
