Slashdot article.

"It's now conceivable, says BusinessWeek's Ed Wallace, that the myth of ethanol as the salvation for America's energy problem is coming to an end. Curiously, the alternative fuel may be done in by an unlikely collection of foes. Fervidly pro-ethanol in the last decade of his political career, former VP Al Gore reversed course in late November and apologized for supporting ethanol, which apparently was more about ingratiating himself to farmers. A week later, Energy Secretary Steven Chu piled on, saying: 'The future of transportation fuels shouldn't involve ethanol.' And in December, a group of small-engine manufacturers, automakers, and boat manufacturers filed suit in the US Court of Appeals to vacate the EPA's October ruling that using a 15% blend of ethanol in fuel supplies would not harm 2007 and newer vehicles. Despite all of this, the newly-elected Congress has extended the 45 cent-per-gallon ethanol blending tax credit that was due to expire, a move that is expected to reduce revenue by $6.25 billion in 2011. 'The ethanol insanity,' longtime-critic Wallace laments, 'will continue until so many cars and motors are damaged by this fuel additive that the public outcry can no longer be ignored.'"

Ethanol is the biggest joke of the 21st century. All it is is a product to water down gas and cause us to get less and less milage per gallon. It was supposed to make us get cheaper gas, but it has acted in direct reverse. Put it back in the cornfields of America where it belongs. I don't know about you but if I am going to pay the current prices that we are now paying for gas, I want all gas and no ethanol blended into it. About 98 percent of ALL gas within the continental USA has up to 10 percent of this crap in it now.

"Must be a total myth which claims that any old engine has ever had trouble with ethanol."

Actually, there are plenty of old engines that have been damaged by other components of gasoline, and blamed on ethanol.

"
Damaged cars and motors? An old wives tale on its best day. My 19 year old lawnmower, and all of my motors runs pretty good on ethanol blends and has for over 13 years.
"

Local power equipment company parts guy told me that their sales of replacement carburetors has gone up by 4X since ethanol was forcibly added to our local gas. This company has been in business selling primarily lawn equipment since 1962, so they might have some idea of what they are talking about.

This is not a single case, but covers a large number of motors.

Ethanol does *not* reduce our dependence on foreign oil, or any other kind of oil, by a single drop.

I'm sold! One19 year old lawnmower runs on ethanol-diluted gasoline. Must be a total myth which claims that any old engine has ever had trouble with ethanol.

I had a 2008 motorcycle which coughed and spit on E10. Had to be rejetted richer to run.

Ed Wallace who?????? Actually Ed Wallace has been anti-ethanol since day 1. Nothing new here.

Damaged cars and motors? An old wives tale on its best day. My 19 year old lawnmower, and all of my motors runs pretty good on ethanol blends and has for over 13 years.

I am very proud to use ethanol in an effort to reduce our dependance on foriegn oil even if it is only one gallon at a time.

I don't care for ethanol and think it does more harm than good.
