Ford Motor is back at investment-grade when it comes to its credit rating, at least in the eyes of Moody's Investors Service, and that means the famed blue-oval logo is out of hock.

The oval, along with Ford's factories and other assets, were pledged as collateral as long as the automaker's credit rating was at junk levels. Now, it's back with the upgrade in credit rating, which could cut Ford's costs when it comes to applying for loans.

"When we pledged the Ford blue oval as part of the loan package, we were not just pledging an asset. We pledged our heritage," said Ford Chairman Bill Ford, great-grandson of the company's founder. "The Ford blue oval is one of the most recognized symbols in the world, and it is a source of great pride and passion, both inside and outside our company.

This article says nothing about why Fords credit rating was in junk status. Ford never filed for bankruptcy and took bailout money. Reducing their credit rating to junk status should never have happend.

Alright! Great going Ford. "Ford was the only of The Detroit Three to avoid filing for bankruptcy protection and getting government bailouts to keep going." The Ford money crunchers saw the writing on the wall soon enough and took the necessary actions to avoid needing a government bailout. Give credit where credit is due.

The reason for not sounding the rallying cry for GM is they did'nt break a sweat. Ford on the other hand rolled up there sleeves, broke out the coffee, and got after it! They should be proud.

On a cynical note, wonder how long it will be before the unions start raising cane about how Ford did it on the backs of American Workers and demamding more mulah!...Just Sayin...

Although many laud Ford as the only one of the Big 3 to never take a government bailout, it was simply a matter of timing.

Ford took on a huge amount of private debt before the economy tanked. When GM and Chrysler tried the same thing months later, no one would loan them money other than the government.

Ford's is turning a corner, and this debt upgrade is indicative of that.
