Some have already noticed more pump distractions, for some this will be new. As if there aren't enough distractions in your daily life, you can add another one to that list- being bombarded by a television screen as you dispense fuel into your vehicle.

It's all too familiar to me- I've noticed some stations that utilize the speakers in the gas pump to virtually "shout" the special deals inside the station, and now a company called "PumpTop TV" signed a deal to bring even more announcements to gasoline pumps in its network.

PumpTop TV already has an arsenal of some 6,000-plus television screens at pumps across the nation and will now grant Goodwill Communications access to the network, delivering more than 12,000,000 impressions...

Gas stations; grocery stores; the multi-input audio-video generation is upon us; like it or not.

Have to worry about people on cell phones, getting back inside their cars while pumping, and leaving the engine running. Dont need to have people watching tv.

I believe in choices, so if I get too annoyed, I can go to the cheaper stations that don't have the $ for all the fancy gadgets... yet...

TV... the curse of humans?

I sure don't like the blasting my eardrum announcements. Usually I don't return to that station for a long time (after I tell the clerk that it's damaging to my ears and unless the company wants to pay for my hearing loss and subsequent hearing aids, I won't be coming back.

I certainly do not like all the distractions at the pump especially the ones that you have to click through before you can even pump your gas!!!!

I stopped paying attention to all the advertising that's placed around the pump a long time ago. I associate it to all the "goodies" that grocery stores place near the check outs. It's primarily junk!

In my area, most people are busy chatting on their Cell Phones while pumping gas to notice the ads! They don't even see the stickers on the pumps saying, "Turn OFF All Electronic Devices"!!

Perhaps GB could have a little check box where we post prices, so that customers can note which stations carry those annoying video ads. Then we would know which stations to avoid. That would bring this crap to a screeching halt!

funny - not too many people knew what I was talking about yesterday when I commented on this article... Let me explain - the benefit of having a CHIROPRACTOR and LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPIST at all gas stations is they would be providing a service that goes hand in hand with gas and oil corporations RIPPING OFF THE PUBLIC. We are being RAPED AT THE PUMP - so when we grab our ankles at gas stations when filling up our car's gas tank, we can also have an adjustment and massage to help limit the pain from bending over and potentially throwing out our backs... GET IT?!?! Another thing that would be nice would be a shovel at each pump, that way if you are paying CASH you can just dig in and fork it over - seriously, it takes too long to pay cash when you are paying sooooooooo much for gas, I guess credit is the way to go, who has cash anymore these days anyways?!?! Then again, some gas stations charge more for credit card purchases, so I guess we really need to be focusing on better sidewalks and bike lanes, driving is to unhealthy and too expensive!!!

Several Holiday gas stations do this in my area. When they started I stopped in for a chat with the manager and told them I would not be back until the TV's were gone. I have stuck to that for the most part. Unfortunately, the most convenient station to my home is one of these. I stop there maybe once every other month.

haven't seen any of those around here yet, or they just are not ae the stations that i buy gas. i can see where they could be very irritating, especially for someone who is putting in a limited amount gas due to available funds. get distracted by that and over shoot what you wanted to put in then what do you do?

Shell has had them here for awhile, basically a Shell commercial telling you how great their gas is and then some NBC ads follow. I say if they can sell ads to lower price, great, but I'm not so sure it'll lower the price.

I'm glad the pumps I go to don't have these, but they were in some CA stations back at least 6 and maybe even 10 years ago.

Sounds like cost of gas at the pump will be going up. Not only will these pumps cost more but imagine how many of these TV screens will be broken or vandalized.

Some of the stations that have these at them by me, are broadcasting mini newscasts, which is kinda cool. To me its just advertising, just like the signs on the pump. I ignore most of the time.

I enjoy turning my back on these screens and knowing they wasted the money. The more advertising they dump on us, the easier it becomes to TUNE IT OUT! It's visual and audio junk mail and spam.

I've seen the ads at one station. It will succeed only if there is some other content to get you to watch. Other content could be weather, news headlines, sports headlines, or similar, short content.

Maybe these stations will be able to charge more for this 'extra' service.
