Let me say up front that the following is an unscientific "snapshot" of retail gasoline prices recorded yesterday, Sept. 12, from 15 cities across the country.

For what it's worth we looked at a random selection of cities to identify the current average price and the swing between the lowest and highest prices in 15 markets... In the east, we recorded the prices for Tampa, Atlanta, Baltimore, Raleigh, and New York. In the Midwest we checked Cleveland, Louisville, Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit. On the west coast we included Portland, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, San Diego and Phoenix.

If you're handicapping the outcome, you might expect that the largest cities would have the greatest gaps between the highest...

Don't worry the oil companies are playing a shell game. They move prices around when folks start getting mad with the high prices. They'll go down and everyone will be happy 'cause it's higher elsewhere.

Gas prices should never vary more than a few cents anywhere.

The fact is some stations are slow about lowering prices in a down market. The differential in Houston is $2.89-3.79, up to 90 cents!

I am expecting our prices to spike again today. How high it will go remains to be seen, but probably higher than last weeks spike.

Wherever you go, the gas prices are too high to due big oil and speculators manipulating the supply market. Until our government takes decisive action to stop these bandits from picking our pockets buying gas, food, used cars, etc, there is nothing we can do from stopping them.
Expensive gas makes everything else expensive, can't believe what used cars cost now.....

I'm not really surprised. It may be that we have more competition, so we see strategies like temporary drops and spikes. For instance, on one country highway in southern St. Clair County, MI, there's a gas station that consistently posts lower prices at 6am for the morning commute, then promptly raises prices for the afternoon commute. It gets gets quite a bit of traffic because we have a high commuter workforce and there are few stations to choose from in that particular area, but most commuters are driving towards Detroit (Wayne County), where prices are even lower than in St. Clair County. Workers pretty much plan to buy their gas in Detroit, so traffic at the country gas station is lower than it could be.

It pays to look around for best prices or use GasBuddy, And don't waste gas looking out of your way yourself. This way you can calculate if it's worth traveling to another station.

Oops, I just gave the site a plug. You'd wonder if I was an employee, but I'm not. Hey can we get paid for our favorable comments?

The one thing I do know is... Our gas prices are High, have been High and will most likely stay High. In July while the reports claim gas was at $1.79 a gallon when O'BACKSTABBER took office, well it has been a long, long time since then, and it has only gone up. Lowest price I remember was in July 2009, the lowest gas prices was $2.47 a gallon in the San Diego Area, that was the low, within a week or so it started to climb and it has never gone back any where close to that since!!!!!

This fuel sitation is a result of a failed stimulus in the past and the efforts of QE 1 and QE 2. It is time for a real change.

The big differance depends on the state and the amount of gas tax that is charged per gallon. Also area dependant within that state.

Since the price rarely falls more than 1-2 cents a week, the price should rise faster than that. If they would ban CIFs and their ilk, this would be normal price movements except near holidays.
