Today I took a 150 mile road trip in the Mark VIII. I was very pleased to see that I got 28.8 mpg average. The best previous to this was about a month ago when i got 26.5. The trip was on Primary Highway (non-interstate) and I was running 55-62 mph with a few blasts when passing slower vehicles.

Is this normal for everyone with 4.6 liter "marks"? .... I was thinking about putting a set of wires and plugs in it, I wonder if it will help the mileage even more!?!?!?!?

jegs,
I had to stick a water pump in it thisweek so I did the wires and plugs at the same time. The plugs were clean (normal) but the wire had been on there "a while" .........

Still runs great, I'll be interested to see what i get for mileage on my next out of town trip!

As for fuel injector cleaner .... I run a bottle thru it every time i change the oil .... about 3k. I used to work for NAPA, and we used to recomend that to our customers. I've seen cars go over 150k miles with the factory injectors, but I used to sell A LOT of injectors to people with car that only had 50-75k who DID NOT do it.

PS: jegs, where are you located? Have you ever run into anyone in the T-Bird, Cougar, Mark VIII club. They are out of the Lincoln/Omaha area .....

If you can't remember when your last tune up was it's probably time for one. If it still has the original wires on a 1993 then they definitely should be replaced. Also run some fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank and make sure your air filter is fresh. Replacing your rear end lube with synthetic will also help your mileage especially in colder climates.
