Went to a flea market where I bought some home made potato chips. They fried them up right in front of me. Served UN-salted. They weren't so much strange tasting as they were unlike brand name chips. Fried in some heavy fat ? Lard? Hope it wasn't alligator renderings as gator meat was being sold across the way.

Fish head - not worth the work for the meat you get off it.

A spice I find strange and borderline gross is cilantro. It is close to eating a bar of soap. Weird flavor. If not for the fact they put it in Mexican food, I'd be happy to do without it. Another strange one is tarragon. Its like eating black licorice. Simply doesn't go well with any food at all. Even that classic, tarragon chicken, is revolting, a waste of good chicken.

So are we talking about 'strange' tasting or just exotic? Foods like snails and alligator are certainly exotic but not strange tasting. If you didn't know what you were eating you wouldn't even notice. Strange tasting would be something like seaweed (gross - slimy and salty) or limburger cheese (disgusting - reminiscent of a dead rat). Actually snails aren't exotic at all, you can get them at just about any restaurant. Plenty of people like them, - they disgust me though.

Wow, I love tofu and could eat it daily. Never heard of it 'till I was 20 years old, now its a basic food for me. But to add to my first pick of Limburger cheese, I'll add caviar... ... bought a jar once to try it out. I took the tiniest little lick of some on a cracker. Just enough to get the flavor. I honestly don't see what the appeal of caviar is. Its simply not very interesting in flavor. Mostly just salty. Some buds and I sat around one night sampling the caviar. It was kinda fun as a lark, but to be honest, caviar simply is a boring food.

School food.
Hamburgers didn't taste like beef, tacos were oily and soggy, cinnamon rolls were always rock hard, garlic bread had no garlic, meatballs looked and felt like cardboard, and corn dogs--no one really wanted to know. There's more I'd list, but I'd rather not remember. *(>_<)*

LOL! Bluesnut, when I saw this topic, what immediately came to mind was "Chocolate covered ants." And yes, I had them at a party about 50 years ago.
I wonder if we were at the same party! <grin>

Fried Grasshopper. My Uncle does alot of traveling and brought them from one of his trips. I was a kid then but I can still taste that taste. It wasn't as bad as you think and very crunchy.

I have to go with limberger cheese. But as a pre-K kid, I always loved good clean black dirt. Lots of it.

Snails, after reading a post below. My date ordered them and offered me a taste, then kinda insisted.
They actually were good because the only flavor is butter and garlic; tiny little pencil erasers in the garlic butter. Impossible to chew, don't try just swallow those little devils
