CH3-Hydride is not that easy to get to. We'll see how it works out in the longer run.

> @ knot2swift : " This makes no idiot sense.
If they wanna inject toxic, lethal and poisonous CO2 (otherwise know as plant food)into the ground and out of our atmosphere, what's wrong with that other than starving plants?
If the wanna inject Nitrogen, (71% of our air that no enviro freak has put down so far) than what's wrong with that other than plants need it? Nitrogen is a fertilizer for them.
So stupid. Seems like it doesn't matter what you try to do, idiots will try and stop you.
One final note: I we just used 100% water for fracking, Idoits would declare it toxic. "
What a stupid, idiotic, nonsensical comment. 'knot2swift', your name says it. You're not only not too swift, you're backwardly slow.

Methane Hydrate is a possible fuel. Produce and capture Methane from land fills and waste dumps is better and much less expensive. Fracking has its problems, protect the surface and ground waters, people and animals at all times from fracking! No fracking waste water injected deep into the earth either! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible! The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

Aviator_Rob;
How exactly do you want the govt to lower gas prices, us4usa? We're already drilling everywhere we can domestically. Unless I'm mistaken, there's actually a shortage of drilling equipment because it's all being used.
If you want gas prices to come down, tell Big Oil to stop exporting domestically produced crude oil and oil products out of this country.
1. Stop printing money like hot cakes 2. Control oil traders 3. Drill on Fed land 4. Stop saying WE need $5/$9 gas 5. More tax on all oil/gas exports 6. Sure some really smart guy could name a few more...
What has DC/WH done to lower gas prices???

Move to India, the methane free zone; no oil or gas drilling and only all organic cows !

We're in a real Catch 22 here, danol43. With the economy being so shaky, the minute the Fed starts to raise interest rates, you'll see the country's GDP go right into the toilet.
And as for the idea of cutting government spending, where should we start? I guarantee somebody will oppose any program you say needs to go, whether it's Medicaid or military spending.
I'm afraid there are no easy answers here. If it was easy, even our brain-dead Congress could have come up with some solution.

Heck, $1.99 gas is over, too.

It sure seems they could capture all that natural Methane in the fields where they just burn it off continually. They say it's more expensive to collect & ship than it's worth. But what a waste & it's polluting at the same time.

I'd like to know how much of this methane hydrate can be recovered using the process mentioned and how much of the methane escapes into the atmosphere, where it's a much bigger greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
Methane emissions are a really big concern since they act like steroids for climate change. The real problem is that as the planet gets warmer, especially at the poles, these methane hydrates locked in the permafrost start to be freed from the ice and evaporate into the atmosphere.
People in the arctic have already done the Gasland kitchen faucet trick but instead of holding a match to the faucet, they're just holding a match to the ground and causing the ground to burst into flame. Methane is just seeping up out of the permafrost.
Fairbanks, we have a problem.

If you want gas prices to go down, tell Congress to quit spending so much money that the Fed has to print more just to stay alive. The result is a declining value of the dollar which means it takes more of them to buy oil from the Saudis.

Interesting. If I recall correctly, this is not new, but rather it is being revisited as a practical energy resource.

"Not only did some of the witnesses to the Deepwater Horizon believe methane hydrates led to the explosion, however, its quick production may have interfered with efforts to control the leak. For those concerned about the negative consequences of oil and natural gas production, the few small earthquakes and trace amounts of harmful chemicals in drinking water associated with fracking are nothing when compared with the potential consequences of misapplied methane hydrate production." --The problem with fossil fuels is not the possibility of running out. It's the problem of daring to recover them...

I mean, if you don't mind having them as your neighbor, of course.
