goalie1950 yoy don't even have a clue in farming I see that.Ethanol keeps the food prices low.The byproducts from ethanol is DDG'S low cost feed for cattle producers = what cheap food prices.Without ethanol your food prices would alot higher and fuel around $1.65 more per gallon.

I don't understand goalie1950 stating that ethanol is detrimental to internal combustion engines. Here in Arizona, we require E-10 during the winter months to reduce the amount of poisonous carbon monoxide produced by all internal combustion engines. We have temperature inversions during the winter that trap the CO near the surface. E-10 is suitable for use in all engines, but higher levels can cause rubber and some plastic parts to swell and deteriorate, unless it is a flex fuel vehicle. Want to become buddies??? Warren :-)

Not looking to get into a war of words, but you are the guy that needs to become educated. Your profile says you're a farmer. So you should know that, yes food prices HAVE gotten higher because farmers divert more of their corn crop for use as ethanol instead of food for the table. In addition, ethanol has been proven to be a detriment to the internal combustion engines requiring more frequent engine repairs. Think about it before you start "running your lips".

Hey redhornet, interesting picture. What is it? Don't have many GB from Mn. Care to be my new GB?

by redhornet  Aug 02, 2012

You need to read more about the by products of ethanol like DDG's that is cheap cattle feed so in turn it will make the food prices low.Without ethanol right now your gaoline would cost you around 40 cents more.Like I said tour a plant before running your mouth.

Redhornet, statistics paint a different picture. 4 of every 10 bushels of corn now go to make ethanol. It's an artificial market: EPA mandates its use so the price isn't free to fluctuate according to market forces. Also, chemistry isn't on the side of ethanol. A gallon of ethanol produces nearly 30% less energy than a gallon of gasoline. So if a gallon of gas-ethanol costs the same at the pump as a gallon of 100% gasoline, the blended fuel still ends up costing more because you can't drive as far on the blended fuel. Plus, ethanol is hygroscopic: it absorbs water from the atmosphere, so it creates the potential to contaminate fuel systems with water. I see nothing good about it as a fuel unless you live in a grain-producing state or work for an ethanol manufacturer, in which case you're being subsidized by the government at the expense of the rest of the country ... and not just at the expense of other drivers, because everyone pays in terms of higher grain prices.
