Ducati: unfortunately, cops don't get paid or promoted for trash tickets. And in most states, trash tickets are not very high. Traffic tickets, OTOH, are often much more income.

Special place in hell for people who litter. Are you really that lazy?
I wish more cops would spend less time writing speeding tickets and more time writing tickets for littering. Just clean out your car at the gas station like everyone else.

around my area many people liter. it is sad but true. 270 and belfontain in Spanish Lake mo coming to the stop light on exit there is always trash there. I believe in these spots there need to be a can so they can toss the trash in the can when stopped.

Here in CA there is a $1000 fine for littering on state highways. I never heard of anyone getting a ticket unless they actually litter in front of a police officer.

'In Kentucky efforts to keep highways and local roadways litter-free are undertaken by more than 800 civic-minded groups participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program that was established in 1988. Volunteers clean approximately 5,100 miles of roadside annually.' Volunteers can accomplish many things with the least cost to the state. Other states can learn from Kentucky and do the same thing. NO LITTERING! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

I know that I see people littering occasionally, but I believe the majority of the litter comes from unsecured items in the back of trucks and mainly garbage trucks. I think there needs to be better control of garbage truck debris

People that litter don't care about theirselves, why would they care about the environment. I know because I was like that before I sobered up. Thank you volunteers! Thumbs up for the chain gangs.

Every state should be using chain gangs. Let them work for their room and board. At the same time, I never could understand people that thought it was perfectly okay to just throw stuff out the car window.

21st century chain gangs (i.e. innocent people convicted by their own guilty consciences).

In our area of KY, we use prisoners to clean up the roadways. They need to do something to pay for all their free room & board, etc.

Good idea. I would volunteer a Saturday to go out onto a California Highway and do a "sweep". Even as dangerous at that would be with cars zipping past at 85 MPH.
