Four Chrysler plants to skip summer shutdown to meet sales demand

Detroit Free Press -- Chrysler said Wednesday that it will keep four plants running through July without observing the traditional two-week summer shutdown and has begun production of the Dodge Dart in Belvidere, Ill.

Belvidere, Toluca, Mexico, Toledo, and Jefferson North will stay open to keep up with demand, which for many Chrysler products continues running well ahead of the industry's overall selling pace.

The company announced earlier this week that Jefferson North in Detroit would build the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs without interruption in July.

In addition, plants in Sterling Heights and Saltillo, Mexico, will observe the summer shutdown only for one week, the company said.

Normally, the Detroit Three automakers and the UAW agree to halt production.......

Good for the workers, no summer shut down and keep working! There really is a demand for Chrysler vehicles? Who would have thought that!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Normally the summer shutdown is for maintenance and tooling changes for the next model which it appears has already been done.

Great, however, our Toyota Prius still has anything that American automobile manufacturers build beat by a long shot, and how old is that design? Will the American Automobile manufacturers ever catch up?

The workers appreciate having a job! Keeping it running is good! Can't wait to see the Dart- friend had one back in the 60's- was a basic little tin machine- no big yips.

Maybe with all those sales orders, they could pay back the money they took from Americans.

Good for Chrysler. However, I wouldn't own another Chrysler vehicle nor a GM vehicle since they stole from the American taxpayers.
