Railroad oil capacity up more than 50 percent

via (AP) The Dickensen Press -- North Dakota’s capacity to export oil by rail has jumped more than 50 percent in June as shippers in the state increasingly turn to mile-long trains to move crude to markets not linked by pipelines.

The increase comes with a pair of crude-to-rail facilities built by Texas companies to move oil from the rich Bakken and Three Forks formations in western North Dakota’s Oil Patch.

Justin Kringstad, director of the North Dakota Pipeline Authority, said the rail terminals bring to 17 the number of facilities built in the state since 2008, as oil drillers have tabbed trains to ship crude due to lack of pipelines or more lucrative markets not served by them.

North Dakota now has the ability to ship at least 470,000 barrels of oil daily by rail, up from about 310,000 barrels. The capacity could

that's the smarter way to transport long distance. Get some of the OTRs off the roads (and keep highways from deteriorating too badly) and move freight onto rails.

Pipelines are the most efficient way for transporting crude oil and fuel. With no pipelines near the source of the oil, railroad tankers are the next best thing. No wonder railroad oil capacity is up more than 50 percent! Time for the railroad companies to make their profit while they can.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe and reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Rail is NOT the most efficient way to move bulk liquids. Pipelines are much less costly to operate and much SAFER. Just wait until a train load of crude derails on some of the old, outdated track that still exists.

Keystone Pipeline and links to it from the Bakken production fields are the answer. Of course Obozo doesn't even know the question! He'll be toast come Nov 6.

In the meantime, my Berkshire Hathaway stock is doing fine thanks in part to all the crude the BN is moving. Of course, y'all are paying for the higher freight in higher prices at the pump. Just remember that come election day.

Pipelines seem a lot safer than moving oil by rail. You hear of a lot more train de-railments than you do pipeline spills.

too bad items are not being shipped by rail, this would decrease the need for oil/gasoline to move by bigrigs the items on our overtaxed highways.
